Printify is a print-on-demand marketplace that connects sellers with a network of independent Print Providers.
The main difference from a single-provider fulfillment service is choice. Sellers can compare providers by product cost, location, shipping, production capabilities, and other factors before deciding who should fulfill a product.
It is primarily useful for businesses following the Print on Demand model without wanting to hold inventory.
Printify's Free plan costs:
$0/month
It currently includes:
Unlimited product designs
Access to the full product catalog
Printify's integrations
Product Creator
Manual orders
Order management
There is no required subscription to start selling.
Instead, Printify charges the seller when an order is sent to a Print Provider for production.
The seller separately receives payment from the customer through their ecommerce platform or marketplace.
Printify Premium currently costs:
$39/month
or:
$299/year
The annual plan works out to approximately:
$24.99/month when billed annually
Printify increased the monthly Premium price from $29 to $39 in February 2026 while keeping the annual price at $299.
Premium currently includes:
Up to 33% discounts on new products
Additional product discounts
Up to 10 stores per account
Unlimited product designs
Printify Connect
Seller support and growth tools
The maximum advertised discount does not apply equally to every product.
Check the actual Premium price for products you expect to sell before subscribing.
Premium becomes economically useful when the product discounts exceed the subscription cost.
For example, suppose Premium saves:
$2 per item
and you sell:
A typical Printify workflow is:
Design product → Choose Print Provider → Publish to store → Customer orders → Print Provider produces product → Provider ships to customer
Printify acts as the platform connecting:
Your store
Your product designs
Print Providers
Order fulfillment
The seller generally controls:
Designs
Products
Retail price
Sales channels
Marketing
Provider selection
The Print Provider handles physical production and shipping.
You can create products without paying a monthly subscription.
There is no need to purchase bulk inventory.
Printify currently integrates directly with platforms including:
Shopify
Etsy
WooCommerce
Amazon US
eBay US
Wix
BigCommerce
Squarespace
PrestaShop
TikTok Shop US
Big Cartel
It also provides an API for custom integrations.
A beginner can usually start most easily through an established marketplace or ecommerce platform.
For example, Etsy Selling can provide marketplace demand, while a Shopify Store provides more control over the storefront and customer relationship.
Search the Printify catalog for the product you want to sell.
For some products, several providers may be available.
Compare:
Base product cost
Shipping
Provider location
Product variants
Print areas
Production method
Provider rating
Choosing the cheapest provider automatically is not always the best strategy.
Shipping location and reliability can be equally important.
The most important Printify concept is the Print Provider.
Printify itself does not physically manufacture every product.
Instead, different providers inside the network produce orders.
Two visually similar products can therefore have different:
Costs
Locations
Shipping rates
Production times
Available colors
Print areas
This makes provider selection an important part of using Printify effectively.
Printify Choice simplifies provider selection for supported products.
Instead of manually selecting a specific provider, Printify can route orders through its Choice network.
Printify may use an alternative provider when doing so saves money or improves fulfillment.
For supported Choice orders, a design may be resized by up to approximately 7% when necessary to accommodate fulfillment.
This convenience reduces manual provider management, but sellers who require very consistent production from one specific facility may prefer more direct provider control.
Order Routing is designed to prevent orders from failing when the original Print Provider cannot fulfill them.
A typical routing event looks like:
Original provider unavailable → Printify finds alternative provider → Order is rerouted → Production continues
You can configure settings including:
Maximum additional cost per item
Exact product matches
Similar product matches
Printify may also route certain international orders to a provider closer to the customer.
This can reduce:
Shipping distance
Delivery time
Create design → Choose Print Provider → Publish to Etsy → Customer orders → Order syncs to Printify → Provider produces and ships
This workflow combines Printify's fulfillment network with Etsy's existing marketplace traffic.
The seller must account for:
Printify production cost
Shipping
Etsy fees
Advertising
Refunds or replacements
A product with a $10 production cost is not automatically profitable at a $20 sale price after the other costs are included.
Create products → Publish to Shopify → Acquire traffic → Customer orders → Printify fulfills → Store handles customer relationship
This provides greater control over:
Branding
Pricing
Email marketing
Upsells
Store design
The challenge is customer acquisition.
Unlike a marketplace, an independent store usually needs traffic from sources such as:
Advertising
SEO
Social media
Influencers
Existing audiences
Launch several designs → Collect real sales data → Identify winners → Keep POD or move successful products to bulk production
This is a useful way to treat Printify as a product-validation system.
Instead of ordering hundreds of units before knowing what customers want, sellers can test demand with almost no inventory risk.
If a product later reaches predictable volume, bulk production may provide better unit economics.
The same product may be available through several Print Providers.
Check:
Product price
Shipping price
Provider location
Product availability
Provider rating
Saving $1 in production can be a poor trade if shipping becomes substantially slower or more expensive.
A provider close to the customer can reduce shipping time and sometimes shipping cost.
This becomes especially important for international stores.
Printify's routing tools can help, but sellers should still understand where their main customers are located.
Shipping is not included in the Printify product price.
Current Printify Choice standard shipping for shirts to the U.S., for example, starts around:
$4.75 for the first item
and:
$2.40 for each additional shirt
Rates differ by provider, product, and destination.
Some Economy shipping currently starts around $3.99 for eligible products and channels.
Always check the actual product's shipping table.
The customer pays your store or marketplace.
Printify separately charges you for production.
These transactions do not necessarily settle at the same time.
For example:
Customer buys Etsy product → Printify charges your payment method → Etsy releases seller payout later
A sudden spike in orders can therefore require working capital even when every order is profitable.
Print Provider ratings and mockups are useful, but they do not replace a real product inspection.
Order samples of products that will represent your brand.
The main business model is selling products without purchasing inventory in advance.
Common products include:
T-shirts
Hoodies
Mugs
Posters
Phone cases
Bags
Home products
Accessories
The seller's main responsibilities become product selection, design, positioning, and customer acquisition.
Creators can sell branded merchandise without warehousing products.
This can work for:
YouTube channels
Podcasts
Communities
Influencers
Newsletter audiences
POD works especially well when merchandise is a secondary revenue stream rather than the creator's core operation.
Sellers can test many design concepts with relatively little upfront capital.
For example:
Launch 10 designs → Measure sales → Remove weak designs → Expand successful themes
This can reduce inventory risk compared with traditional manufacturing.
Freelancers and agencies can offer:
Printify setup
Store integration
Product creation
Product migration
POD store management
This can complement broader services.
Printify's direct integrations currently include major platforms such as:
Shopify
WooCommerce
Etsy
Amazon US
eBay US
Wix
BigCommerce
Squarespace
PrestaShop
TikTok Shop US
Big Cartel
Native integrations are usually preferable because they automate:
Product publishing
Order importing
Fulfillment
Tracking updates
For custom stores or applications, Printify provides an API.
Use the API when a normal ecommerce integration cannot support the required workflow.
Developers can use the Printify API to build custom commerce workflows.
For example:
Custom storefront → Create order through API → Printify sends to provider → Fulfillment status returned → Store updates customer
API integration can make sense for:
Custom ecommerce platforms
Personalized product applications
SaaS products
Specialized ordering systems
Most ordinary POD sellers do not need this.
A native ecommerce integration is easier to maintain.
An experienced seller does not necessarily need to use one Print Provider for the entire catalog.
For example:
T-shirts → Provider A
Posters → Provider B
Mugs → Provider C
The provider can be chosen based on the economics and quality of each product category.
The tradeoff is that mixed-provider orders can create separate shipments for customers.
The Printify network model provides flexibility but also means fulfillment is not physically centralized under one provider.
Products from different providers can vary in:
Print result
Packaging
Production process
Shipping speed
Test important products before scaling.
Printify generally does not support returns or exchanges when the customer:
Chooses the wrong size
Chooses the wrong color
Changes their mind
For manufacturing errors or damaged products, Printify currently offers a free reprint or refund when the issue is reported within 30 days of delivery with the required evidence.
Your store's return policy should account for the difference.
There is no single Printify shipping rate.
Cost depends on:
Product
Print Provider
Destination
Shipping method
Do not copy a shipping estimate from one product and apply it across the catalog.
A slightly cheaper product can create worse economics if it leads to:
More expensive shipping
Longer delivery
More support requests
Lower customer satisfaction
Compare total fulfillment economics.
Platform | Best Fit | Main Difference |
|---|---|---|
Printify | Sellers wanting multiple provider choices | Marketplace of many independent Print Providers |
Printful | Sellers prioritizing a more vertically integrated fulfillment experience | More centralized production and fulfillment model |
Gelato | Businesses focused on local production across markets | Distributed production network |
Gooten | Established ecommerce operations | Fulfillment and operational focus |
Choose Printify when:
Comparing multiple suppliers is valuable
Product cost flexibility matters
You want a very large catalog
You want provider choice
Order Routing is useful for your operation
Consider another provider when:
Consistent production through a more controlled network matters more than supplier choice
Another provider offers significantly better quality for your main product
Shipping to your primary market is better elsewhere
Bulk manufacturing becomes economically superior at your volume
Yes.
Printify has a Free plan with no required monthly subscription.
You pay production and shipping costs when orders are fulfilled.
Printify Premium currently costs $39 per month or $299 per year.
The annual price is equivalent to approximately $24.99 per month.
Standard Printify products are produced after an order is placed, so sellers generally do not need to purchase finished inventory in advance.
Yes.
A Print Provider can produce the product and ship it directly to the customer after an order is received.
Printify operates primarily as a marketplace connecting sellers with many Print Providers.
Printful uses a more vertically integrated fulfillment model.
Printify can provide more supplier choice, while Printful may appeal to sellers who prefer a more centralized fulfillment experience.
Yes.
Printify directly integrates with Etsy, Shopify, WooCommerce, and several other ecommerce platforms and marketplaces.
25 items per month
Estimated savings:
25 × $2 = $50
That would exceed the $39 monthly subscription price.
If you sell only five products per month at the same discount:
5 × $2 = $10
the subscription would not pay for itself based on product savings alone.
Use your actual product mix rather than the maximum advertised discount when making this calculation.
Upload your artwork and position it using Printify's Product Creator.
Check:
Resolution
Print area
Placement
Product variants
Mockups
A design that looks correct on one shirt size or product variant should still be checked on the others.
Your approximate contribution margin is:
Retail price − Printify product cost − shipping − marketplace fees − advertising − other costs
Do not treat the difference between retail price and Printify's base product price as profit.
Publish the product to your connected sales channel.
Before spending heavily on advertising, consider ordering the product yourself to evaluate:
Product quality
Print quality
Packaging
Sizing
Shipping experience
Customs exposure
However, a replacement provider can sometimes cost more than the original.
Check:
Print alignment
Color
Material
Sizing
Packaging
Routing can prevent lost orders when inventory becomes unavailable.
However, different providers can produce slightly different results.
If exact product consistency matters more than fulfillment continuity, use stricter routing settings.
Printify's large product catalog makes it easy to publish hundreds of items.
This can create:
Weak store positioning
More customer-service complexity
More designs to maintain
Harder product testing
Start with a focused product range and expand based on real sales data.
Printify advertises discounts up to 33% on certain products.
Actual savings depend on the product.
Calculate expected savings using the products you actually sell before subscribing.
Printify solves production and fulfillment.
It does not provide guaranteed buyers.
A profitable business still needs:
Marketplace demand
Advertising
SEO
Social media
An audience
Another acquisition channel
